Sierra Leone’s police trained investigators from the Freetown-East region in criminal law, investigative procedures and the preparation of court files, Sierra Loaded reported. The training was delivered on Wednesday 4 November at Ross Road Police Station by Joan Bull Kamara, assistant commissioner and head of the Sierra Leone Police’s Legal and Justice Support Department.
Joan Bull Kamara urged investigators to check the legal requirements before charging a suspect, keep accurate files and follow investigative procedures. Freetown-East Regional Commander Brima Kanneh also called on them to strengthen their cooperation with police prosecutors and master each case so they could present the evidence clearly in court. Participants raised questions about investigations, court procedures and their professional responsibilities.
The session followed the training of volunteers by Sierra Leone’s police in Masingbi, announced on 1 November. This volunteer training in Masingbi was aimed at a different audience, while the Freetown-East session targeted investigators.
