Participants were urged to respect human rights, avoid mob justice and report offences to the authorities, reports Sierra Loaded.
The newly established Masingbi Police Division in Sierra Leone organised a one-day training session for local safety volunteers and members of local policing partnership boards, reports Sierra Loaded. Held at the division's headquarters, the session focused on community policing, crime prevention and residents' role in maintaining security.
Deputy Regional Commander Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray and Regional Human Resources Officer Mariatu Fofanah stressed respect for human rights, lawful arrest and detention procedures, and the rejection of mob justice. They also called on participants to help combat the use of tramadol, cannabis and Kush, a drug consumed in Sierra Leone.
Police Regional Community Relations Coordinator Inspector AbuBakarr Sidikie Mansaray presented the volunteers as a link between law enforcement and residents. The head of the local unit, Superintendent Rashid Osman Koroma, highlighted the role of traditional leaders in mediating conflicts and consolidating peace.
The training is part of efforts by Sierra Leone's police to strengthen cooperation between communities and law enforcement. It follows training for Zimmi volunteers in discipline, announced on 8 October 2026. On 28 October, police also conducted an awareness campaign in Rutile schools.
