The University of Makeni will provisionally admit 2026 WASSCE candidates who passed at least four subjects, even without an English pass, except in Law and Nursing. They must obtain the pass by 31 October 2028 to confirm their admission, according to the registrar's statement.

The University of Makeni (UNIMAK), in Sierra Leone, will provisionally admit into its undergraduate programmes 2026 WASSCE candidates who obtained credits in at least four subjects, even if they did not pass the English examination, according to a statement from the registrar's office published on 31 October.

The measure, decided by the university senate on 29 October, applies only to candidates from the 2026 session. It excludes Law and Nursing. Admitted students will have to take remedial English classes and pass the examination by 31 October 2028 at the latest, failing which their admission cannot be confirmed.

The senate appointed Andrew Sesay to lead the remedial programme, with the support of Emily Munasia and Beatrice Ortserga. The university also plans to ask the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to reactivate its examination centre in Makeni so that students can retake the examination on campus.

In addition, the graduate school board is to examine on a case-by-case basis applications from people who obtained Division 3 results at a meeting scheduled for 3 November 2026. The measure follows Sierra Leone's calls for WASSCE results to be released within 21 days, published on 31 October in an article on WASSCE results.
