Myk Berewa, the director of communications at Sierra Leone’s State House, calls for the political exploitation of thousands of withheld 2026 WASSCE results to be avoided. He asks for debate focused on examination malpractice, with 169 schools implicated, according to his statement reported by Sierra Loaded.

Myk Berewa, the director of communications at Sierra Leone’s State House, called on Saturday 31 October for the thousands of withheld 2026 WASSCE results not to be used for political purposes. He asked political leaders and other stakeholders to focus on solutions to examination malpractice, according to Sierra Loaded.

The WAEC, the West African Examinations Council, withheld the results of thousands of candidates and flagged 169 schools over suspected malpractice, including collusion between candidates, possession of phones and the use of unauthorised documents. Myk Berewa acknowledged the need to sanction the students and school officials concerned, while calling for consideration of President Julius Maada Bio’s government investments in the free, quality education programme. He also asked for concrete proposals to reduce malpractice and improve educational outcomes, according to Sierra Loaded.

The statement comes as Sierra Leone demands the publication of the WASSCE results within 21 days, a request reported on 31 October. It also follows the publication of an analysis presenting the WASSCE as revealing a learning crisis.
