Police in Sierra Leone’s Tankoro Division intensified their road safety campaign at Gbense Market in Koidu. Officers reminded pedestrians and drivers about crossing rules, the ban on using phones while driving or in traffic, and the risks of speeding, overloading and alcohol, reports Sierra Loaded.
The police of the Tankoro Division conducted a road safety awareness campaign on Friday 30 October 2026 at several busy locations in Koidu, Sierra Leone. The operation was led by ASP Andrew Batilo Vandy, the division’s traffic officer, according to Sierra Loaded.
At Gbense Market, police advised pedestrians to look left and right before crossing and to avoid using phones while walking on busy streets. Motorcycle-taxi riders were warned against excessive speed, overloading and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The team also reminded them of the obligation to obey signs, zebra crossings and pedestrian priority.
The campaign continued at Koeyor Park, then on Yardu Road and in Kwakor’s parks. Women traders and other residents of Gbense welcomed the initiative and promised to follow the advice they had received, according to Sierra Loaded. Tankoro Division is under the authority of Chief Superintendent Dr Sahr Nyuma, who wants to strengthen prevention through contact with communities.
