Sierra Leone’s gross domestic product per capita is estimated at $946.47 in 2026, placing it 11th among the poorest countries on this measure. The figures measure economic size relative to population, not individual incomes or poverty, according to October estimates by the International Monetary Fund.

Sierra Leone ranks 11th among the 15 countries with the lowest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in 2026, with an estimate of $946.47, according to forecasts by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) published in its October World Economic Outlook.

Burundi ranks last, with $510.37 per capita, ahead of Yemen and Sudan. Sierra Leone is followed by Liberia, estimated at $976.26, then Gambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia.

GDP per capita relates a country’s total economic output to its population, in current US dollars. It corresponds neither to the average salary nor to the income actually received by each resident, and does not directly measure the poverty rate or the distribution of wealth.

These figures for 2026 are estimates that may be revised as new economic data become available, the IMF said.
