Sierra Leone’s Vice-President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has called for stronger representation of women and support for proportional representation to promote political inclusion and national cohesion. He was speaking on Tuesday 27 October 2026, at the close of the National Conference on Unity and Social Cohesion, organised in Freetown by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, according to The Calabash Newspaper.
Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh said exclusion and social injustices fuelled distrust in institutions. He presented proportional representation as a way to broaden political participation and increase the presence of women in governance.
The two-day conference brought together government officials, political leaders, international organisations and civil society around reconciliation, democratic governance and peaceful coexistence. The call comes after President Julius Maada Bio proposed six measures for peace on 26 October 2026, then apologised to war victims on 27 October.
