Zimbabwean Parliament Speaker Jacob Mudenda on Wednesday called for stronger parliamentary oversight of public spending and policies, particularly public health and the purchase and distribution of vaccines. He also called for parliamentary committees to be assessed on their concrete results, according to 263Chat.

Mudenda also advocated closer ties between universities and the private sector to train graduates who meet the needs of Zimbabwe’s industrialisation. He called on the ministries of Finance and Skills Development to facilitate these partnerships and on higher education institutions to make businesses aware of their difficulties.

These proposals were made during the national 2027 pre-budget seminar, held from 28 to 31 October in Bulawayo. Ministries and parliamentary committees are examining proposed programmes and spending priorities there ahead of the budget’s presentation by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube on 19 November, reports 263Chat.
