Former employees of public or privatised hotel businesses in Ghana are demanding severance pay unpaid since 2008 and have submitted a petition to the Presidency. Their representative, consultant Nani Welbeck, asked President John Dramani Mahama to intervene; a presidential aide said the matter was being addressed, MyJoyOnline reports.
Former employees of Ghanaian state-owned hotels that have since closed or been transferred to private operators petitioned the Presidency on Tuesday, demanding severance pay owed since 2008. Consultant Nani Welbeck, who presented their petition, asked President John Dramani Mahama to intervene after nearly 20 years of waiting, MyJoyOnline reports.
The former employees, several of them elderly and vulnerable, gathered with placards urging the government to settle what they are owed. Nana Yaa Jantuah, a member of the presidential team who received the petition, asked them to be patient and said steps were being taken to find a lasting solution to their demands, according to MyJoyOnline.
