The Nigerian Union in South Africa wants to strengthen cooperation with Nigerian High Commissioner Femi Fani-Kayode to improve support for the community. Its president, Smart Nwobi, also called for greater coordination with the diplomatic mission and the Association of Nigerian Citizens, according to P.M. News Nigeria.

The Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA) wants to work more closely with Nigeria’s High Commissioner, Femi Fani-Kayode, to improve support for Nigerian nationals living in the country. Its president, Smart Nwobi, announced this in a statement after a reception held in honour of the diplomat, according to Nigeria’s NAN news agency.

Nwobi said the meeting aimed to establish a partnership with the diplomatic mission, rather than simply present complaints. He referred to information-sharing, mobilisation and community coordination to facilitate engagement with South African authorities and reach Nigerians across the country more effectively.

The NUSA president also called for stronger relations between the union, the diplomatic mission and the Association of Nigerian Citizens in South Africa. He praised Consul-General Ninikanwa-Okey Uche for informing the community about issues affecting its wellbeing.

The initiative follows Femi Fani-Kayode’s pledge to protect Nigerians in South Africa, announced on 26 October. Fani-Kayode, a former Nigerian aviation minister, is now Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa.
