Nigerian police have arrested three suspects linked to several kidnappings in Kwara State, including a man disguised as a woman and carrying charms. Two arrests followed the alleged dismantling of a kidnappers’ camp, said Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Kwara police spokesperson, quoted by P.M. News Nigeria.
Police in Kwara State, western Nigeria, have arrested three suspects accused of belonging to a kidnapping network. Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, announced the arrests in a statement published on Tuesday.
Aliyu Isiaka was intercepted on 24 October in Okolowo, in the city of Ilorin, by forest guards led by Jebrin Adam. He was wearing women’s clothing and carrying a bag containing charms, according to police. Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said he told investigators that he had joined a group of nine people in August 2026, led by a man known as Juli, who is currently wanted, and had taken part in three kidnappings in Oloru, Alapa and Malete, for which ransoms were reportedly paid.
A joint operation by police and forest guards on 25 October at a camp suspected of housing the network led to the arrest of two more people. The three suspects are under investigation and are to be brought before the courts once it is complete, the spokesperson said. Security forces are continuing their search for the group’s other suspected members.
Kwara Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi described the operation as an important step towards dismantling kidnapping networks and securing vulnerable communities. The arrests came a day after Nigerian police announced the release of 29 hostages and the arrest of 48 suspects on 27 October in another operation against crime (police release 29 hostages and arrest 48 suspects in Nigeria).
