A truck carrying a container overturned onto a bus on Berger Bridge in Lagos, killing four people and injuring 16. Rescue teams took the injured to Epe General Hospital and cleared the area with help from the police and the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

A truck carrying a 20-foot container overturned onto a Toyota Hiace minibus in Lagos, killing four adult men and injuring 16 others. The accident occurred early on Wednesday, 28 October, on Berger Bridge, towards Eleko, on the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Initial findings indicate that the truck was travelling at high speed as it went up the bridge before hitting the bus, registration number GME-589 ZU. The driver is said to have lost control while trying to avoid the collision. The injured received first aid before being taken to Epe General Hospital by rescue teams, the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps. A private crane was brought in to lift the truck and free the victims.

LASEMA said its teams had also dealt with two other accidents in Agege and Igando on the same day. In Agege, a truck hit a solar streetlight before mounting the central reservation, with no casualties. The agency set up diversions to keep traffic safe.

The accident occurred on the same day that a report on three road accidents in Lagos was published, recording four deaths and seven injuries. Another fatal accident had been reported the previous day in Gombe, where a collision between a tricycle and a tanker killed four people.
