South African police arrested a 42-year-old man suspected of two murders, assault and hijacking, spokesperson Yolisa Mgolodela said. The murders date back to June 2025 in the Eastern Cape province; the body of a kidnapped 53-year-old woman was found near Murraysburg, IOL reports.
Police in the Eastern Cape arrested a 42-year-old man on Monday suspected of killing two people, including a man he accused of having an affair with his wife, according to provincial police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, quoted by IOL. He is also facing charges of kidnapping, assault and hijacking.
The events date back to 8 June 2025, when a man was killed near Middelburg. The suspect allegedly then kidnapped a 53-year-old woman and fled towards Graaff-Reinet in her car. The woman’s body was found several days later beside a road leading to Murraysburg, while the stolen vehicle was recovered in Kariega on 11 June 2025. The cases were assigned to the Nxuba serious violent crimes unit.
The suspect, who allegedly evaded the search by moving through several provinces, was spotted on Monday in a liquor outlet in KwaNobuhle. He allegedly tried to flee when police approached, before being arrested by the Kariega crime prevention unit, with support from several investigation teams and canine units. He is due to appear on Wednesday before the Middelburg and Robert Sobukwe courts, according to Yolisa Mgolodela.
