Eugene de Kock, a former head of an apartheid death squad in South Africa, testified on Monday 26 October before the commission of inquiry into unresolved crimes from that period, RFI reports. Aged 77, he is known by the nickname “Prime Evil”.
De Kock tortured and killed political opponents under the apartheid regime. After its fall, he did not receive amnesty for some of these atrocities and spent two decades in prison. His hearing is part of an inquiry into cases involving apartheid crimes that were left unprosecuted, an issue on which former South African president Thabo Mbeki has been called to explain himself before the commission. AfriForum has asked to cross-examine him.
