First Burkinabè gold miners expelled from Guinea return home

By , based on Netafrique

The first convoys of Burkinabè gold miners arriving from Guinea reached Bobo-Dioulasso on the night of 4 November 2026 and were welcomed at Sangoulé Lamizana Stadium. Burkinabè authorities expect other groups, while those repatriated are calling for support and reintegration measures.

Among the first Burkinabè gold miners to return from Guinea is Grégoire Sawadogo, who said he left the country hastily at the first signs of the situation deteriorating. He said he was grateful to the Burkinabè authorities for the welcome given to returning nationals, according to Netafrique.

Several repatriated people are now calling for state support for their care and socio-economic reintegration. The National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations of Houet (CNAVC-Houet), which is involved in citizen monitoring, is taking part in welcoming the convoys, Netafrique reported.

The return of the gold miners follows measures taken in Guinea against illegal gold mining. On 4 November, more than 450 gold miners expelled from Guinea also arrived in Mali, according to the article on their arrival in Mali.
