Ousainu Darboe, leader of Gambia’s United Democratic Party, called on residents of Dippa Kunda to reject President Adama Barrow’s promise of continuity. At a political meeting, he accused his government of mismanagement, economic hardship and neglect of road infrastructure.
The leader of Gambia’s United Democratic Party (UDP), Ousainu Darboe, on Friday 6 November 2026 called on residents of Dippa Kunda to reject President Adama Barrow’s call for continuity, saying a new term would prolong corruption, economic hardship and unfulfilled promises, reports Kerr Fatou. At a UDP political meeting, he also accused the government of mismanaging public resources and neglecting essential infrastructure.
Ousainu Darboe notably criticised the state of the roads in Dippa Kunda, saying his delegation had to take several detours to reach the meeting, with some routes impassable. He presented Basamba Drammeh, who recently joined the Coalition Gambia First-UDP alliance, as a leader committed to improving the local road network, according to Kerr Fatou.
Darboe called on voters to support Basamba Drammeh and the UDP-led alliance, while saying the presidential election should not be determined by ethnic or religious considerations. He cited the Serrekunda market to illustrate his argument that rising prices and economic hardship affect Gambians regardless of their political affiliation, reports Kerr Fatou.
The position comes after the UDP’s call to reject a third term for Adama Barrow, published on 2 November. Gambia’s UDP calls for rejection of Barrow’s third term had presented the position of Gambia’s main opposition party.
