Gambian lawyer Lamin J. Darboe has been chosen as the candidate of the Team Gambia Grand Coalition in the presidential election scheduled for 5 December 2026, Gambiana reports. He was selected from among seven aspirants who had submitted their candidacies to represent the alliance.

The other contenders were Amadou Jaiteh, Basiru Njie, Mariama Khan, Suwaibou Touray and Professor Yusupha Dumbuya. Amadou Kah withdrew from the race and left the coalition.

The coalition had said it would consult the public before choosing its candidate. Its selection announcement came after that process, mentioned on 20 October in an article about Team Gambia's consultation. On 29 October, it had also promised to limit its candidate's presidential term to five years.
