Young people in Ebonyi organised a peaceful march against violence, intimidation and attacks targeting opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. Participants called for non-violent campaigns and equal protection for political parties, according to Vanguard.

The Concerned Ebonyi Youth for Democracy group organised a peaceful march in Ebonyi State, south-eastern Nigeria, to protest violence, harassment and intimidation targeting opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, Vanguard reports. Participants called for all parties to be able to campaign and exercise their political rights without fear.

Nollywood actor Steve Rostick Eze, who spoke during the march, called on young people to reject violence and security agencies to ensure the protection of all parties and compliance with electoral rules. Nnanna Nwangene, national president of the Anyigaemeya Youth Assembly, also called for opposition parties to be able to carry out their activities without harassment and expressed his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the candidacy of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Ifeanyichukwu Odii for governor of Ebonyi in 2027.

The march comes after several initiatives linked to the risk of electoral violence in Nigeria. ECOWAS assessed the security of the 2027 elections on 31 October, while Christian and Muslim youths signed an electoral peace agreement on 1 November. On 6 November, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also called on Bola Tinubu to protect Nigeria’s opposition.
