Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf says his 2027 re-election bid is not a matter of life or death. He says he is leaving the outcome of the vote in God's hands, after the contested 2019 and 2023 elections, according to Daily Trust.

Abba Kabir Yusuf, governor of Kano State in Nigeria, said on Friday that his bid for re-election in 2027 was not a matter of political life or death. He said power belongs to God, who gives and removes authority at will, according to Daily Trust.

Yusuf was speaking during the swearing-in of Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa and Balarabe Sa’idu Gani as commissioners of Kano State. He asked Bature Dawakin Tofa to strengthen communication of government policies and drug awareness campaigns among young people, while he tasked Gani with tackling illegal mining by strengthening monitoring and enforcement of the rules.

The governor also recalled the setbacks faced by his camp in the 2019 elections and the legal battle surrounding the 2023 governorship election. He said the 2027 vote was in God's hands, according to Daily Trust.

The statement comes amid political mobilisation around Nigeria's 2027 presidential election, including support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election expressed by Atiku Abubakar's son on 31 October, followed by Olujuwon Obasanjo on 5 November. It also comes on 6 November, the day Tinubu approved the deepwater port of Ibom in Akwa Ibom State.
