The Tshopo provincial assembly in north-eastern DR Congo has suspended its ordinary activities for 21 days, from 6 to 26 November 2026, because of the spread of the Ebola epidemic in the province, according to Actualité.cd. The decision is set out in an act signed on Friday 6 November by the institution's president, Mateus Kanga Londimo, and was taken on the proposal of the members of the bureau who met the previous day.
The measure aims to prevent the spread of the disease within the institution and to protect provincial deputies as well as administrative staff. It does not cover all parliamentary activities: the special investigative committees and the Economic and Financial Commission, already deployed in the field, are authorised to continue their missions. A minimum service will be organised within the administration, the details of which will be set out in a statement from the bureau.
The bureau plans to work with the competent health services to ensure the full disinfection of the premises and to organise a vaccination campaign for provincial deputies and all staff. The elected representatives are also called on to step up awareness-raising among the people of their constituencies about the disease and compliance with barrier measures.
