Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike, says he will never support Imo State governor Hope Uzodimma for the Senate presidency. He accuses Uzodimma of wanting to leave office before January 2028 to seek a Senate term in 2027, Daily Post Nigeria reports.

Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said on Thursday that he would never support Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, for the Senate presidency. He accused Uzodimma of wanting to leave his term as governor, which is due to end in January 2028, to seek a Senate seat in 2027, according to Daily Post.

Nyesom Wike said he had supported Hope Uzodimma during his re-election as governor, against Sam Anyanwu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He now reproaches Uzodimma, chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, for leading opposition to the Rainbow Coalition, his cross-party movement which seeks to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 while allowing members to back PDP candidates in other elections.

The position comes after the creation of a rainbow coalition to support Bola Tinubu, announced by former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha on 30 October. It also follows opposition from Hope Uzodimma’s camp to the primary organised by Rochas Okorocha, followed by the two men’s public rapprochement at an APC rally on 4 November.
