Two people were reportedly killed and 20 others abducted in an attack blamed on terrorists against the Akwando community in Nigeria’s Kaduna State. The Kuturmi Development Association released the names of those missing, according to Punch, while police have yet to confirm the incident.
Two people were killed and 20 others were reportedly abducted on Wednesday 4 November in an attack carried out by men suspected of being terrorists in the community of Akwando, in the Kachia local government area of Kaduna State. Police have not yet confirmed the attack, which was announced on Thursday by Joseph Ariko and Manasseh Samuel Akwando, respectively president and communications secretary of the Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA), according to Punch.
KUDA published the names of the 20 people who were reportedly abducted and said the repeated attacks were causing fear, population displacement and the abandonment of farmland. The association also accused armed groups of restricting access to ancestral lands and demanding payments before farming activities, according to Punch.
The Akwando attack follows one in Ariko, on Easter Sunday, which reportedly killed five people at the scene and 17 others among those held captive. KUDA also mentioned an attack in Awon, where two people were reportedly killed and 11 abducted; five people released on 3 November returned home, while another died the following day. These incidents are part of a series of attacks reported on 4 November, including the abduction of 21 villagers in Nigeria.
