Two people identified as African Democratic Congress supporters were allegedly shot and wounded on the Sokoto-Wurno road while travelling to an Atiku Abubakar presidential rally. Witnesses accused Sokoto community guards, reports ThisDay, while the victims were taken to hospital.

Two people identified as supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party of Nigerian presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, were allegedly shot and wounded on Wednesday on the road between Sokoto and Wurno. Witnesses accused Sokoto State Community Guards officers of opening fire after a confrontation at a roadblock that prevented vehicles from reaching the ADC rally, reports ThisDay.

The two victims were taken to hospital. The convoy resumed its journey after the intervention of the Civilian JTF accompanying Senator Ibrahim Lamido, coordinator of the ADC presidential campaign council in Sokoto State.

Sokoto State police spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufai said that his command had received no information about the shooting and could not confirm the incident. The allegation comes as the ADC continued its presidential campaign in Sokoto, despite incidents reported in previous days.
