Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress candidate in Nigeria's 2027 presidential election, promises to restore security if elected. He launched his campaign in Sokoto despite accusations that the local authorities and security services sought to disrupt it, the Daily Post Nigeria reports.
Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in Nigeria's 2027 presidential election, has promised to restore security throughout Nigeria if elected. He was speaking on Wednesday at the official launch of his campaign in Sokoto State, where he called on voters to support his party, according to the Daily Post.
The former Nigerian vice-president said restoring security remained one of his promises to Nigerians. He went ahead with the launch of his campaign despite accusations made the previous day against the Sokoto State government and security services.
Atiku accused the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria's domestic intelligence service, of recruiting protesters to cause unrest and create conditions for a curfew. The DSS ordered an investigation while saying the accusations were incompatible with its operations. The service said it had protected political figures from several parties, including by evacuating Mannir Dan’iya, the ADC's candidate for governor of Sokoto, after an attack on 31 October.
The launch came after Atiku denounced a plan to disrupt the ADC rally in Sokoto. The ADC had previously maintained its presidential campaign despite alleged attacks in Sokoto.
