Senegal has activated 112 as the single emergency number for contacting the police, gendarmerie and fire service. The system is intended to coordinate responses and enable residents to quickly pass on useful information, according to Senegalese authorities quoted by Senego.

Senegal has introduced 112 as the single emergency number for contacting rapid-response services, according to Senegalese authorities. The system allows people to contact the fire service, Gendarmerie and Police through one number.

Senegalese authorities are urging the public to dial 112 in an emergency or to pass on any useful information. Pooling calls should facilitate coordination between the defence, security and emergency services.

The measure comes as Senegal strengthens its emergency response resources, after 11 billion CFA francs was allocated to the sector on 24 October. Senegal’s emergency response upgrade was presented at the time as a measure intended to improve response capacity.
