Senegal allocates 11 billion CFA francs to strengthen emergency services

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye inaugurated the 15th company of the National Fire Brigade in Diamniadio and announced 11 billion CFA francs to strengthen emergency services. The funding is included in the 2026 supplementary finance law to improve their territorial coverage, Senenews reports.

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced the mobilisation of 11 billion CFA francs to strengthen the territorial coverage of emergency services at the inauguration on Saturday 24 October of the 15th company of the National Fire Brigade (BNSP) in Diamniadio, Senenews reports. The funds are included in the 2026 supplementary finance law.

The new company is intended to improve emergency coverage in a developing area and reduce response times. It strengthens the BNSP’s presence in the Dakar region, where the growth of infrastructure and economic activity is accompanying the rise of new urban centres.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye stressed the importance of bringing response teams closer to residents. The 14th company had previously covered a large area around Rufisque. The president also referred to a recent accident that claimed the lives of two workers, emphasising the importance of a rapid emergency response.

The 11 billion CFA francs are provided for under the 2026 supplementary finance law, whose budgetary provisions have caused disagreements in Senegal. On 21 October, Ousmane Sonko had rejected the law, which reduces energy subsidies by 30%.
