Abdou Aziz Sarr, a member of the Boucliers de Diomaye in Thiès, has accused Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of disloyalty towards President Bassirou Diomaye Faye following his statements on public debt. He reproached him for acknowledging that he had taken the initiative to speak about the hidden debt without first informing the head of state, reports Seneweb.
Abdou Aziz Sarr believes that communication on public finances requires consultation at the highest level of government because of its possible effects on Senegal’s financial credibility, its partners and the conditions for financing the economy. He also called for an assessment of the effects of the Economic and Social Recovery Plan on purchasing power, businesses and the cost of living.
The Boucliers de Diomaye official also called on MPs to avoid a deadlock over the 2026 supplementary finance bill and the 2027 initial finance bill. He urged them to prioritise dialogue on the regulation of special appropriations so as not to delay the implementation of public programmes, according to Seneweb.
The position comes after several public exchanges over the government’s economic management. On 25 October, the government had called on Pastef to cost its budget amendments, following criticism of Sonko’s record as prime minister and his comments on the IMF on 19 October.
