The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, launched his party’s campaign on Wednesday 4 November in Sokoto, north-western Nigeria, before thousands of supporters. The former Nigerian vice-president is due to present the ADC’s programme on national unity, security and economic recovery, reports ThisDay.
Atiku Abubakar arrived in Sokoto with his campaign team and first went to the palace of Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III to seek his blessing. He then joined the rally held on Ilorin Road, where the former state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and the ADC’s candidate for governor, Muhammad Manir Dan’iya, welcomed him. Security was strengthened around the palace and the gathering venue.
The launch came after the postponement to 4 November of the ADC campaign in Sokoto, announced on 29 October. It followed the decision to hold the rally despite alleged attacks, and then Atiku Abubakar’s accusations of a plan to disrupt the gathering on 3 November, reported in the report on the alleged plan to disrupt the ADC rally in Sokoto.
