Health authorities in Kaduna, Nigeria, want to vaccinate between 1.3 million and 1.5 million children under five in nine local government areas. The campaign, scheduled for 5 to 11 November, will deploy teams to homes, schools, places of worship and public spaces, according to official Isah Yushau.
The Kaduna State Government in Nigeria is targeting 1.3 million to 1.5 million children under five in a polio vaccination campaign launched on Thursday 5 November in nine local government areas, according to Isah Yushau, health education officer at the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, quoted by Leadership.
The teams are expected to cover 101 wards in one week and visit homes, schools, churches, mosques, streets and playgrounds. The campaign follows the isolation of two samples of mutant poliovirus in the Soba and Igabi local government areas earlier this year, while neighbouring states are recording infections caused by several variants, Isah Yushau said.
The Kaduna campaign follows the targeting of 130,000 children for vaccination against mutant polio in Adamawa State, announced on 30 October 2026. This vaccination campaign in Adamawa involved another vaccination operation in Nigeria.
