Algeria and Niger want to contribute to security and stability in the Sahel, Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf said in Niamey on Wednesday after an audience with Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani, according to Echorouk. Mr Attaf said the two countries shared the same concern over the tensions, crises and conflicts affecting the region.
The Algerian minister also referred to an “unprecedented dynamic” in bilateral cooperation since Abdourahamane Tiani’s state visit to Algiers. He said a broad range of opportunities for cooperation was now being exploited for the benefit of both countries and their populations, according to Echorouk.
The statement came after Ahmed Attaf delivered a letter from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Abdourahamane Tiani. It followed the restart of mediation between Niger and Chad, announced on 4 November, and extends Ahmed Attaf’s exchanges with the region’s leaders.
