Senegal’s Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning disputes the request by the National Assembly’s Finance Committee to withdraw the initial 2027 finance bill. In a statement dated 4 November 2026, it accused the move of being an obstruction tactic and called on MPs to act responsibly, SeneNews and Senego report.

According to Senego, the chair of the Finance Committee requested the withdrawal of the initial 2027 finance bill on 3 November, arguing that the rejection of the 2026 supplementary finance bill called its budget assumptions into question. He called for a new version of the bill, before summoning MPs the following day to examine the budget.

The ministry also believes that this summons raises a procedural issue, as the statutory 48-hour period was not respected, Senego reports. To challenge the idea that the 2027 budget would be automatically blocked, it recalled that in December 2025 the National Assembly had adopted the initial 2026 finance bill before the second 2025 supplementary finance bill.

The department headed by Cheikh Diba warned that a possible blockage could affect the clean-up of public finances, economic recovery, the settlement of domestic debt arrears, aid to vulnerable populations and commitments made with trade unions, according to Senego. It called on parliamentarians to comply with the legislation in force.
