Nigerian ADC appeals against Atiku invalidation

The African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar’s party, has announced an appeal against the Federal High Court in Abuja’s decision invalidating its leadership and the candidacies submitted under its authority. Its spokesperson accused the ruling party of seeking to weaken the opposition after the Sokoto rally, This Day reports.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), a Nigerian opposition party, will appeal Judge Peter Lifu’s decision invalidating the party leadership led by Senator David Mark and the actions taken by that team, including Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy, its national secretary for communications, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced.
The ADC considers the decision legally unfounded and has called on its members to remain calm. The party cites a judgment delivered on 2 July 2026 by Judge Musa Liman, who had confirmed the legitimacy of David Mark’s leadership and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise it.
The decision came the day after an ADC rally in Sokoto, which the party said was attended by hundreds of thousands of Nigerians. It follows the invalidation of Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy for 2027, announced on 5 November.
