Atiku Abubakar rejected a ruling challenging his presidential candidacy and disputed the decision targeting the leadership of the African Democratic Congress. The candidate said the decision sought to weaken his campaign in northern Nigeria, according to a statement from his team cited by the Daily Trust.
Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s candidate in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, challenged on Thursday a ruling calling into question the party leadership headed by Senator David Mark. In a statement signed by Phrank Shaibu, his campaign team’s director of strategic communications, he said the decision aimed to weaken the ADC and hinder his candidacy, the Daily Trust reports.
Atiku Abubakar said an earlier ruling by Judge Musa Liman in case FHC/ABJ/CS/1637/2025 had rejected the challenge to David Mark’s leadership on grounds of jurisdiction, standing and failure to exhaust the party’s internal remedies. He announced that the ADC would approach the Court of Appeal to challenge the new proceedings and called on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding. He also said the strong mobilisation seen in Sokoto, where the ADC campaign was launched, would continue in Kebbi and then across Nigeria.
The reaction came on the day a Nigerian court invalidated Atiku’s 2027 candidacy. It also followed Atiku’s promise on 4 November to restore security in Nigeria in 2027.
