Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen will miss the two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Tanzania, scheduled for 13 and 17 November, because of a left knee injury requiring surgery, Turkish club Galatasaray announced on its X account, according to P.M. News. The player was injured during Galatasaray's 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans revealed a strain in the left knee and a loose body in the joint, Galatasaray said. Victor Osimhen is to undergo arthroscopic surgery on Saturday at Istanbul's Maslak Acıbadem hospital, performed by the club's doctor Yener İnce. He will also miss this weekend's Turkish Super Lig match.
The Super Eagles striker joins the list of notable absentees for these qualifiers, after goalkeeper Jesús Owono, left out of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. At the end of October, Samuel Chukwueze had also been operated on before the AFCON qualifiers.
