Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied a poster circulating on social media claiming it had validated the ADC leadership led by Senator David Mark. In a statement released on Friday, the commission said the poster, which also carried its logo and the image of one of its commissioners, did not come from it.

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday denied having reaffirmed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark, Vanguard reports. In a statement, the commission said a poster circulating on social media, accompanied by a text claiming it had "reaffirmed" that leadership, did not come from it. "INEC issued no such reaffirmation," the statement said.

The commission condemned the unauthorised use of its logo and of the image of its national commissioner Mohammed Haruna in the publication, and called on the public to learn of its activities and decisions only through its official channels. The denial comes as the ADC is going through a leadership crisis following a High Court ruling annulling the party leadership led by David Mark, a former Senate president. The decision also cast doubt on the validity of acts taken by that team, including the presidential primary process.

The crisis follows the invalidation of Atiku Abubakar's candidacy for 2027 by the courts, a decision the former vice-president attributes to his candidacy being targeted.
