Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said his government would not reverse the removal of fuel subsidies, at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Akwa Ibom, Leadership reports. "Nigeria will never go back to subsidy," he said, calling on Nigerians not to return "to Egypt", a biblical reference to the Hebrews' stay under Pharaoh.

The head of state also attacked opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election, in particular Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra, whom he challenged over his handling of erosion in that state, and Atiku Abubakar, his rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also raised the record of previous governments on road infrastructure.

The statements come as the opposition steps up preparations to challenge the outgoing majority in 2027. Last week, Nigerians criticised Bola Tinubu after the invalidation of Atiku Abubakar's candidacy by the courts.ll
