Niger's Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine received Senegal's Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Niang, in Niamey on Friday 6 November 2026, carrying a message from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to his Nigerien counterpart, army general Abdourahamane Tiani, Seneweb reports.
The mission opened with Dakar's official condolences to Tiani after the death of his father on 5 November. Cheikh Niang then reaffirmed the excellence of relations between the two countries, highlighting a historic partnership forged since independence.
The envoy expressed Senegal's respect for the sovereign choices of the Sahel states and called for permanent consultation between ECOWAS and the AES, which brings together Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, in order to prevent the isolation of the blocs. He called for West African solidarities to be preserved, in particular the free movement of people and goods, recalling the historic ties and common aspirations of the region's peoples.
The visit comes two days after a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was delivered to Tiani by his Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, and as Niger strengthens its border cooperation with the Haftar camp, the power in eastern Libya, announced on 4 November.
