Senegalese defender Mamadou Sarr described the difficulties he experienced after returning early to Chelsea, where he played only seven matches. He said he suffered particularly after a mistake against Paris Saint-Germain and from a lack of communication with his staff, in an interview with L’Équipe.
Senegalese defender Mamadou Sarr said he went through a difficult period at Chelsea, where he failed to establish himself after returning early from a loan at Strasbourg, according to an interview with French daily L’Équipe.
Recalled to London by Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg’s former coach who became a Chelsea coach, Sarr played seven matches for the English club without securing a lasting place in the team. He spoke in particular about a mistake during the 3-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain, followed by criticism and a lack of communication with his coaching staff.
“Not doing your job any more, staying on the bench watching your team-mates play, was difficult to experience,” the 21-year-old told L’Équipe. Rosenior’s swift departure, despite having wanted Sarr to return, further complicated his situation and reduced his playing time at Chelsea.
Loaned to Real Sociedad this season, the Senegal international defender said he had regained playing time and the pleasure of playing. This period at Chelsea also damaged his chances of taking part in the World Cup, according to his account.
