Former Nigerian senator Abubakar Umar Gada has launched his campaign for the Sokoto East seat and welcomed members who left the All Progressives Congress and African Democratic Congress to join the Peoples Democratic Party. He called on his supporters to mobilise ahead of the 2027 general elections, Vanguard reports.

Former Nigerian senator Abubakar Umar Gada welcomed defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday 31 October in Gwadabawa, Sokoto State. He said the PDP could regain power in the state in the 2027 general elections, according to Vanguard.

The new members were received at the launch of Gada’s campaign for the Sokoto East senatorial seat. The former senator urged party activists to mobilise and restore supporters’ confidence. He described the district as a traditional PDP stronghold and highlighted his experience and record from his previous time in the Senate.

Gada also called on the government to increase its intervention in communities facing insecurity, poverty and a lack of development. He urged voters to defend their rights and remain vigilant during the 2027 elections.
