A suspected robber was fatally shot by police in Nairobi after pulling out a knife and attempting to attack an officer during his arrest. Officers intervened after catching two armed men threatening a woman on Juja Road, according to Tuko.

Police in Nairobi shot dead a man suspected of robbery on Saturday 7 November after he attempted to stab a police officer during his arrest on Juja Road, according to the Kenya National Police Service (NPS). Officers from Pangani Police Station had spotted two men armed with knives assaulting a woman and demanding her belongings.

The two suspects fled towards the Kosovo slums before being pursued on foot by police. During the arrest, one of them pulled out a knife and advanced towards an officer, who used his firearm in response to the threat, according to the NPS. A search at the scene recovered a mini-pistol, a knife and the mobile phone taken from the woman.

The NPS announced that targeted operations and patrols against criminal activities would continue. It also urged the public to remain vigilant as the end of the year approaches, a period during which the service says it observes an increase in thefts and other opportunistic offences.
