A young Quranic student tried to attack an imam with a knife at the Yeradè mosque, in the Tata 2 district of Labé, Guinea, on Friday 6 November 2026. He was restrained by a muezzin and other Quranic students before the situation escalated, according to information reported by Africaguinee.

The young man entered the mosque from the eastern side before crossing the rows of worshippers towards the door reserved for imams. The knife was taken from him and he was then taken back to his home, while the prayer was able to finish normally, according to Africaguinee.

Residents of the area and talibés say he had been communicating very little for some time and had mental health problems, although no medical opinion has confirmed these statements. The same witnesses said he had gone to the mosque three times on the previous Thursday, during prayer times, wanting to lead the religious service, before returning on Friday with a knife, according to Africaguinee.

Security officers went to the scene after the incident, then reportedly left without taking the young man away after observing his condition, according to the witnesses cited by Africaguinee.
