Twenty-seven young Guineans are missing after their boat sank off Algeria, according to information received by their relatives in Conakry. The boat's thirty passengers are said to have all been Guineans; three people are said to have been rescued, Africaguinée reports.
Among the missing is Karim Baldé, whose elder sister Ramatoulaye Baldé recounted on Saturday 7 November 2026, in the Bantounka 2 district of the commune of Lambanyi, her last exchanges with him. "On 12 October, he had called me to tell me they were about to put out to sea," she said, adding that the family had learned the news the day before from the young man who had organised her brother's trip, then from his friends. The family is calling on the Guinean authorities to shed light on what happened to the passengers.
