Nigerian President Bola Tinubu says his economic policies moved Nigeria away from the risk of financial collapse and prevented a sharp depreciation of the naira. He also urged young people to register to vote ahead of the 16 January 2027 election, according to Vanguard.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu says his economic policies saved Nigeria from financial collapse and argues that the naira would have lost all its value without measures taken by his administration, to the point of having to be transported by wheelbarrow. He also said that 27 of Nigeria’s 36 governors could not pay salaries, pensions and gratuities when he came to power, compared with what he described as an improved situation now, reports Vanguard.
Bola Tinubu made the remarks during a visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he urged voters to support his administration and Governor Umo Eno. He described the 16 January 2027 presidential election as decisive for the country’s direction and called in particular on young voters to obtain their permanent voter cards, according to Vanguard.
At a reception at Ibom Palm Resort, Tinubu also cited the facility as an example of the rehabilitation of degraded land. He said the site occupied 73 acres previously affected by erosion and had been developed with an artificial lake, reports Vanguard.
