Boubacar Sy took office as director-general of Pikine Central Fish Market at a handover ceremony with Aliou Baldé. The new head has made modernisation, sanitation and improved security priorities for his term, according to Senego.

Dr Boubacar Sy officially took office as director-general of Pikine Central Fish Market on Friday 6 November, during a handover ceremony with his predecessor Aliou Baldé, Senego reported. He made modernisation, sanitation and security among the market’s priorities.

The new director-general notably wants to improve an infrastructure that receives thousands of people every day, including fishmongers and women processors. He intends to build on Aliou Baldé’s achievements and called for collective mobilisation to carry out the modernisation work, according to Senego.

Boubacar Sy, who is also a political official with Kiiraay/Les Patriotes républicains in the commune of Lat Mingué, thanked President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Prime Minister Al Aminou Lô and Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy Amy Mara Dièye for their confidence, Senego reported.

The installation follows Boubacar Sy’s appointment to head the market, announced on 27 October. This appointment to head the central fish market was published that day, before the handover ceremony on 6 November.
