Gabon and China signed six memorandums of understanding during the state visit by Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to Beijing on 6 November, under the leadership of the two heads of state, according to GabonActu. The agreements cover geological and mining cooperation, training in geosciences, the development of industrial chains, construction of the Gabonese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ multipurpose building and cooperation between the two countries’ television networks.

The two countries also adopted a joint declaration aimed at elevating their relations to a “Gabon-China community with a shared future in the new era”, beyond the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership established in 2023, GabonActu reports. Beijing is to support implementation of Gabon’s National Growth and Development Plan 2026-2030 and support the development of natural resources, including their exploration, local processing, infrastructure and training.

On trade, Libreville and Beijing plan to quickly conclude an economic partnership agreement. It is intended to permanently regulate the exemption from customs duties granted to Gabonese products on the Chinese market since 1 May 2026. The two countries are also to modernise their agreement on the promotion and protection of investments, according to GabonActu.
