Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema held talks in Beijing on Friday with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, housing, industry and investment. The trip follows three days in Shanghai devoted to investment promotion, according to GabonActu.

Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema made the case in Beijing on Friday for Chinese investment in social housing, the cement plant, local processing of manganese and the integrated Belinga project, during a working session with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People, GabonActu reports. He invited China to increase its investment in four areas: mining, local processing, fishing and training.

The Chinese Premier reaffirmed his government's willingness to increase the volume of trade and bilateral cooperation, and to step up cooperation in the development and exploitation of energy resources. Li Qiang praised the leadership of the Gabonese head of state and China's ambition to support Gabon in the local processing of its natural resources. Both sides reaffirmed the strength of Sino-Gabonese relations, established since 1974.

Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema thanked President Xi Jinping for the welcome given to the Gabonese delegation and welcomed the customs duty exemption granted by China to African products. The session in Beijing concludes a 72-hour stay in Shanghai devoted to investment promotion and to discovering the Chinese development model.

It follows on from the Chinese partnership converted into investments advocated by the Gabonese president on 3 November, and from his request for manganese processing addressed to Beijing the same day.
