Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met BW Energy officials in Libreville on Wednesday 28 October to discuss search operations after the Borr Prospector 5 oil platform sank off Mayumba. Talks focused on strengthening technical and human resources, continuing the search and investigating the causes of the accident, reports Infos Gabon.

BW Energy plans in particular to deploy an underwater robot to explore the submerged wreck, examine its condition and collect technical data for the investigation. A team bringing together international experts and Gabonese authorities has also been set up to conduct the search and help establish responsibility.

Ten additional doctors have also been mobilised to strengthen care for survivors. The head of state had cut short his stay in Barcelona to return to Gabon and meet survivors and the families affected by the sinking.

The meeting follows the first operations launched on 26 October, when the sinking left one dead and four missing. It also follows Oligui Nguema’s call for the search to continue on the same day.
