Chad’s Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production opened a meeting in N’Djamena on 29 October 2026 between Chad, Burkina Faso and Niger to coordinate livestock vaccination against two animal diseases, Toumaiwebmedias reports. The discussions focus on peste des petits ruminants and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia.
The three countries want to harmonise their campaigns to limit the spread of the diseases across borders and protect herders’ livelihoods. The representative of the ECOWAS Regional Animal Health Centre recalled that the global strategy aims to control and eradicate peste des petits ruminants by 2030.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mahamat Makoundji, deputy director-general of Chad’s Veterinary Services. Yacoub Ibrahim Djouma, national coordinator of the Regional Project to Support Pastoralism in the Sahel, said the programme supports the strengthening of veterinary services, disease surveillance and access to quality veterinary medicines.
