A Central African delegation travelled to N’Djamena to study Chad’s experience of universal health insurance at a workshop held on 20 October 2026 at the organising institution’s headquarters. The aim is to draw on Chad’s institutional, technical and financial mechanisms, as well as the difficulties it has faced, reports Journal du Tchad.
The multisectoral mission is also comparing the experiences of Togo, Ivory Coast and Ghana to identify solutions for establishing universal health coverage in the Central African Republic. At the opening, Sing-yabé Barnabas, director-general of Chad’s National Health Insurance Fund, recalled that his country had been working for several years to build the system.
The achievements presented included participatory and transparent governance, the mobilisation of financial resources, the gradual inclusion of vulnerable people and workers in the informal sector, and the digitalisation of administration. These measures are intended in particular to improve the system’s efficiency and combat fraud.
