Gabon-China: Oligui Nguema raises cooperation to alliance level

Gabon and China have raised their relations to the level of a "Gabon-China community with a shared future in the new era", under the impetus of Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Xi Jinping. This new architecture is to support industrialisation, local processing of resources and skills development, according to Infos Gabon.

Gabon and China raised their relations on 6 November to the level of a "Gabon-China community with a shared future in the new era", following discussions between Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing. This new formula replaces the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership established in 2023, according to Infos Gabon.

The two presidents placed the local processing of Gabon's natural resources at the heart of their joint declaration. Beijing committed to supporting Gabon in adding value to them, from exploration to processing, as well as in infrastructure and training, in line with the objectives of Gabon's National Growth and Development Plan 2026-2030, according to Infos Gabon.

Six memorandums of understanding were signed in the presence of the two heads of state. They cover in particular geological cooperation, within this new phase of economic cooperation, according to Infos Gabon.
